Louis De Pointe De Lac is the main protagonist in the story. He is 200 years old and is giving an interview to a reporter during which she narrates the story of his life. This idea of a vampire telling his story to a reporter was unique and was one of the things that carried this book on its back. Otherwise, it would have been very hard for this book to survive the test of time.
