According to the story, Torak was half burned by the orb. The left side of his body burns due to the orb.

And then there are some characters in this book having the main part of the story as well. Cherek and his son are the ones saving the orb from the Tork and keep it unharmed. Only they possess the power to do so. The name of Cherek’s son is Riva.
