First edition credited Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist, as the work’s author and thus lead many readers to believe that he was a real person. Robinson Crusoe, a sailor, sets sail for a sea voyage in 1651 against the will of his parents. His journey fails in a shipwreck and he prepares for another voyage resulting in multiple failures. After years he joins an expedition to bring slaves from Africa to America. He gets shipwrecked again in a storm and lands on an island which he calls Island of Despair. Upon arrival to the island, he only finds out that all the crew is dead. He only finds himself and three animals alive with him. After getting out of the trauma and despair as a result of shipwreck, he starts living on the Island and the story follows on.
